Red Squirrel Workshop
During this workshop you will have the wonderful opportunity to spend a few hours in a secluded woodland hide at Argaty Red Kites, in Doune, near Stirling. We will concentrate on the photogenic and charismatic native red squirrel.
To ensure you have the best viewing experience, the largest group booking will be for 3 people. There are two types of viewing hatches in the hide to give different perspectives, though some degree of flexibility will be required for the ground hatches.
Squirrels are most active in the morning and early afternoon but we also need to take winter light in to consideration, so start times will be between 9-10am and will last about 4 hours. There are also plenty little birds like coal tits, chaffinches, and nuthatches.
You will require your own transportation to Argaty where parking is available.
The hide is only a few minutes walk across a field but if you do have restricted mobility we could potentially arrange for transportation but this is not guaranteed.
Dates:
These workshops will be available from the beginning of October 2023 through to the end of March 2024. There are no set dates for the workshops however, as I work full time they will only take place at weekends.
Access to the hide depends on the availability at Argaty. When requesting to book, it may be useful to set aside a couple of dates and I can work with Argaty on the most suitable day for all parties.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the workshop on Saturday. I really enjoyed myself and was happy that you helped me get the best out of my camera. I’ll try to remember what you said and absorb the technical aspects as best I can. I was pleased with some of the shots and, reviewing them, I can see where I could have improved – every day a school day!
Red Kite Workshop
This workshop will give us use of the kite photography hide at Argaty Red Kites in Doune, near Stirling. Autumn & Winter is the best times to see red kites as they gather together in larger groups, so we could see up to 40 birds during our afternoon.
To ensure you have the best viewing experience, the largest group booking will be for 3 people. The hide has three large hatches to give you lots of room for tracking the birds. By the time these workshops take place, there will be a new additional feature to the hide which we can make use of this is top secret for now!
The feeding session starts between 1.30 & 2pm depending on the time of year. We can enter the hide earlier in the day and spend time photographing the small birds such as tree sparrows and greenfinches which make use of the feeders situated outside. Timings can be confirmed nearer the time.
You will require your own transportation to Argaty where parking is available.

There is room for a tripod or monopod if you prefer some additional stability but handholding is a great option if you can.
